It’s about as simple as it gets, and the touchscreen walks you through the whole thing. Here’s the short version so there are no surprises when you roll up:
- Pull up and put out that cigarette. No smoking within 25 feet of the cage — it’s the law, and happens to be a good idea around propane.
- Tap the touchscreen to begin. It’ll guide you from there. (There’s a keypad for our hearing-impaired customers, too.)
- Pay with a card. All credit and debit accepted — no cash at the kiosk.
- Grab your full tank. The machine unlocks a locker; take your full 20 lb tank out.
- Drop your empty in the open locker if you’re exchanging. Empty, expired, or partly full is fine — as long as it’s a 20 lb steel BBQ tank that isn’t dented or badly rusted. (No aluminum or composite tanks, sorry.)
- Load up safe and go. Keep the tank upright and secured, valve closed, and no more than four BBQ tanks in an enclosed vehicle. Then you’re back on your way.
Just need a full tank without a trade-in? No problem — the station sells new ones, too. Runs 24/7.

Is buying a new tank a different price than exchanging one?
Yes — buying a brand-new tank outright costs more than exchanging an empty for a full one.
Either way, the screen shows you the price up front before you pay, so there are no surprises.
What size and type of propane tank does the machine handle?
Standard 20 lb steel BBQ tanks only — the common grill-and-patio-heater size.
It does not take aluminum or composite tanks, or larger sizes like RV, forklift, or 100 lb tanks, or 1 lb camping cylinders. If it’s a steel BBQ tank, you’re good.
Will the machine take my empty, expired, or partially full tank?
Yes — empty, expired, or partially filled tanks are all accepted for exchange.
You don’t need to run it all the way down first, and an out-of-date certification isn’t a problem. The only catch is condition: it has to be a 20 lb steel BBQ tank that isn’t dented or badly rusted.
How do I get my full tank out of the locker?
Once you’ve paid, the machine automatically unlocks the locker holding your full tank — just open the door and lift it out.
The touchscreen tells you which locker opened. Each full 20 lb tank weighs somewhere around 35–37 lbs total, so give it a solid two-handed lift.
Where do I put my empty tank when I'm exchanging?
After you take your full tank out, the machine opens a locker for your empty — the screen walks you through when and where.
Take the full one out, put your empty in, close the door.
What happens if a locker won't open after I've paid?
Don’t force it — use the 24-hour emergency number posted right on the machine (1-877-474-2772) for help.
The station is operated with U-Haul and Sierra Propane, so support is available outside store hours.
